The third LFP World Challenge tour is close to getting underway. Just when the 2014/15 season is coming to an end, Australia will host a La Liga team for the second campaign in a row in Villarreal CF, who will play two La Liga World friendly matches in Adelaide and Brisbane.
Marcelino García Toral's side will travel to Australia once the Liga BBVA season finishes to play two friendlies, against Adelaide United FC and Brisbane Roar FC, respectively. The first of the duels will take place on 29 May at 19:30 (12:00 in Spain) against Adelaide United, from the A-League. The Yellow Submarine will then head off to play Brisbane Roar FC on 3 June at 19:00 (11:00 in Spain) before heading home.
The first of Villarreal’s rivals, Adelaide United, have a large Spanish contingent in their squad. Their coach Josep Gombau is one of the favourites to lead his team to the league title this season, and he boasts four Spanish players in his squad: Sergio Cirio, Isaías Sánchez, Pablo Sánchez and Miguel Palanca.
Brisbane Roar meanwhile are the reigning champions of the A-League and one of Australia's representatives in this season's AFC Champions League.
The matches of the La Liga World are part of the LFP World Challenge that launched last season to promote Spanish football on the international stage, as well as promoting the values of 'Brand Spain' and Spanish companies, and to generate parallel business opportunities.
In 2014 Málaga CF were Spain's representatives in the LFP World Challenge in Australia. The Andalusian side played two matches, beating Adelaide United FC 5-1 and drawing 1-1 with Perth Glory FC.
