The pre-season tests continue for the Liga BBVA clubs. Sevilla FC, Villarreal CF and Real Sporting were the squads in action this Sunday, adding more game experience to their preparations for the upcoming season.
Villarreal CF was in fine form on the pitch of London's Emirates Stadium as they picked up an impressive 0-2 victory over Olympique of Lyon in the Emirates Cup. Bruno Soriano put Marcelino Garcia Toral's team ahead by converting from the penalty spot and Leo Baptistão finished the scoring in the second half.
Things also went well for Sevilla FC as they defeated Stade Reims 1-2 on the French club's home pitch in a contest that showcased the Andalusian team's offensive firepower. Unai Emery's squad went ahead at the 18-minute mark with a goal by Frenchman Kevin Gameiro. Reserve Juan Muñoz increased the lead before half-time and Sevilla managed to hold on for the victory despite the French team's second-half comeback.
Recently promoted Sporting finished off the day with a triumph via penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie with CD Tenerife. The match was held at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium on Tenerife, a facility celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. Although the exciting action began from the first minute, a goal didn't arrive until the second half when a counter-attack freed Omar Perdomo to drill the ball into the rival goal and set the stage for drama until the final whistle. In the 88th minute, Jony scored the goal Abelardo Fernandez's players had desperately been searching for and ensured the final outcome would be settled from the penalty spot.
