Villarreal CF and Elche CF face off on matchday 36 of the Liga BBVA, a clash in which the sixth-placed hosts will attempt to maintain their lead over the teams in pursuit of the position. After sealing top-flight safety last time out, meanwhile, the visitors go into the fixture having already accomplished their mission.

Team news

The home side will have several players out for this encounter. Sergio Asenjo, Denís Chéryshev, Bruno Soriano, Mateo Musacchio, Ikechukwu Uche, Adrián Martín and Tomás Pina are all unavailable through injury, and Víctor Ruiz is suspended. For Elche, injury victims David Lombán, José Ángel Alonso and Przemysław Tytoń have not been included in Fran Escribá's squad for the match, while Damián Suárez serves a ban for accumulated yellow cards.

Views from the dugout

Villarreal coach García Toral is well aware of the importance of the game: "If we win, we'll be in an ideal position to end the season in sixth place. After going so far in the other two competitions, this team deserve it".

Elche boss Escribá had words of praise for his side’s opponents: "Villarreal have had a great campaign and I think that it’ll be a difficult game despite the fact that they come into it on a bad run. El Madrigal is a very tough ground to go to", he declared.
