Whilst the selection process may still be ongoing, there can be no doubt as to the success of the LaLiga Global Network in attracting applications, as the scheme - led by LaLiga in partnership with Banco Santander and Universia - continues to gather pace. The first phase of the project, which involved the filtering of CVs, came to a close on 29 November. Since LaLiga president, Javier Tebas and Santander general manager and the country head for Santander Spain, Rami Aboukhair launched the project almost a month ago, nearly 13,000 candidates have expressed an interest in joining LaLiga's ranks.
One surprising element surrounding the thousands of applications to have been submitted is their origin. This international project, which was mainly designed to promote young Spanish talent, has drawn interest from applicants based all over the globe. The LaLiga Global Network platform has received applications from 130 countries from across the continents and three days after the deadline for the submission of CVs, staff from Universia and LaLiga continue to screen applications to determine which candidates will be selected for the initial round of interviews.
The face-to-face interview stage, for which candidates will be handed individual slots, will begin on 6 December in Seville. Recruitment will also take place in Barcelona (8 December), Santander (10 December), Valencia (17 December) and Madrid (18 December). Although it was expected that 550 candidates would reach this stage, the standard of the applicants has been so high that the final number could reach 600.
The list of candidates for the next stage will be completed in the coming days, and once finalised, Universia will then inform those who have been selected. So far, 71% of the chosen candidates hold a master’s degree or a doctorate and 63% have over three years' work experience. A high standard indeed, and not at odds with the youthful age of the applicants, given that 56% are between 22 and 28 years old, whilst 44% are aged between 29 and 37.
Universia has already been in contact with hundreds of applicants, who are set to be offered their chance to reassert their credentials to work for the best league on the planet. Tuesday 6 December sees the next stage of the LaLiga Global Network kick off in Seville, as the most exciting international project in LaLiga's history continues to take shape.
