- Last year proved that being one of the Liga BBVA's newboys is by no means a barrier to success, with the promoted trio of UD Las Palmas, R.Betis and R.Sporting all doing enough to extend their stays in the top flight for another season.

- This past season also showed that age is nothing but a number when it comes to scoring goals. If we were ever in any doubt, we need look no further than Athletic Club's Aritz Aduriz, who at 35 turned in a career-best campaign to seal his place in the Spain squad that goes in search of a third successive European Championship title this summer.

- We also learnt that as well as being a vintage year for wines, 1997 was a year which gave us a crop of footballers who are set to grab the headlines for many years to come, including the likes of Mikel Oyarzabal, Adalberto Peñaranda, Borja Mayoral, Jorge Mere, Jesus Vallejo, Adrian Marin...

- You can't afford to take your foot off the gas in the Liga BBVA. This is another lesson we learnt in a season in which even a 12-point cushion was proved not to be insurmountable. The end-of-season run-in just went to show that in LaLiga literally anything can happen.

- Last term also showcased how FC Barcelona's lethal MSN trident has propelled the Catalans to the very top. Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez chalked up an impressive 90 goals between them in a record-breaking season for Luis Enrique's side.

- Last season confirmed that tight-knit squads that are committed to playing attractive football really can go places, as demonstrated by RC Celta who next term will make their return to European football, some nine years on from their last appearance.

- We also discovered that Cedric Bakambu is one for scoring braces. Indeed, of the 12 goals the Congolese hitman chalked up last season, eight of them came in the shape of four doubles.

- The division's sharpshooting Spaniards showed that they certainly know where the goal is. In a display of national goalscoring prowess, Aduriz netted 20, Ruben Castro hit 19, Borja Baston struck 18, Lucas Perez was on target 17 times, whilst Iago Aspas ended the campaign on 14 and Imanol Agirretxe and Paco Alcacer claimed 13 goals apiece.

- The 2015/16 season also exemplified that it isn't impossible to turn the clock back. This was perfectly illustrated by Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres, who rediscovered his form of old in a run which saw him notch six times over the last eight games of the campaign.

- Finally, we witnessed how Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid side were a testament to the club's motto as they fought to the bitter end in their quest to claim the Liga BBVA title, as LaLiga followers were treated to a thrilling final three matchdays of the league campaign.
