Spanish sport celebrates the Royal Decree with the hashtag #Megustaelfutbol

Spanish athletes showed their support and gratitude for the approval of the Real Decree on social media, as other sports will benefit from the new law.

Other top level sports will benefit from the approval of the Royal Decree concerning the sale of television rights in Spanish football, as 1 percent of the revenue from football will be put towards the growth of Spanish sport.

This new boost for other sports has been greeted with joy by sports men and women in Spain, and many athletes have showed their support for this new law and this new share of revenue that will help other elite sports. Ander Mirambel, Spanish athlete in the sport of Skeleton and the first Spanish olympian in this sport, was one of the first to show his gratitude on social media for the support that the decree will generate for other sports.

Nicolás García, medallist at London 2012 in Taekwondo, also expressed the feeling of many Spanish athletes on social media, showing his gratitude for football for being the only sport that will share its revenue with other top level sportsmen and women. Carolina Marín, world and European champion in badminton in 2014, and who last year was on the LFP World Challenge, was another prominent Spanish athlete who also expressed her support by using the hashtag #Megustaelfutbol.

Another sportsman to express his gratitude is Javier Fernández, 2015 world champion in figure skating, who last week took the honourary kick off before Real Madrid-UD Almería. The sport of athletics also showed their support for football via athlete Ana Peleteiro, who said she was very happy with football for taking this decision.

Saúl Craviotto, double olympic medallist (Gold in 2008 and Silver in 2012) in Kayaking;  Javier Hernaz, Spanish canoeist; Lidia Valentín, an athlete who has got the best results in by finishing fourth at London 2012; Alejandra Quereda, Spanish gymnast who was two-time world champion (2013 and 2014) and Diana Martín Giménez, Spanish athlete who finished third at the 2014 European Championships in Zúrich, also had kind words to say about this initiative that will strengthen sport in Spain via the power of football. #Megustaelfutbol.
