Sevilla FC beat Rayo Vallecano 2-0 in one of Sunday’s Liga BBVA matchday 33 fixtures. Goals by Vicente Iborra and Daniel Carriço settled the result for the Andalusians, who have still not lost at home this season and provisionally move to fourth in the division. Meanwhile, the Madrid side remain in eleventh.

Rayo’s tempo was blistering at the beginning of the game and the visitors threatened Sevilla with efforts from Gaël Kakuta and Quini. Despite the away side’s good start, Sevilla went in front in the 16th minute. Diogo Figueiras broke into the box and found Iborra who made it 1-0 with a commanding first time finish. The goal filled the home team with confidence and, even though Toño Rodríguez prevented Kevin Gameiro from extending the lead, the Andalusians still managed to head into the half time break two goals ahead. The second came when Denis Suárez swung in a cross towards Carriço who headed the ball home at the first post.

The second half was a thrilling contest, with an array of chances at both ends. Gameiro came close to hitting the target right after the restart, while Rayo attempted to shorten the distance with a double effort from Javier Aquino and a Kakuta header. With further shots on goal from Alejandro Pozuelo, Kakuta and Manucho, the Valleca players did their best to find a way of turning things around but were unable to find a way past Sergio Rico. As such, Sevilla finished the game 2-0 winners and remain unbeatable at home.
