Sevilla FC beat UD Almería 2-1 on matchday 37 in the Liga BBVA. The visitors took the lead in the first half through Thievy Bifouma but Vicente Iborra scored twice in quick succession in the second half to turn the game on its head.
Almería knew that the three points were vital to their bid to avoid relegation from the Liga BBVA and that explained Sergi Barjuan’s side’s positive start to the game. From the first minute the visitors pressured their opponents high up the pitch with a lot of intensity. Neither side created clear chances in the opening stages but Almería broke the dead lock in the 29th minute when Thievy played a one-two with Jonathan Zongo before finishing past Sergio Rico at the far post.
Sevilla improved after the break, although the visitors continued to create chances, but were unable to kill off the game. Sevilla drew level thanks to Iborra and six minutes later the midfielder put his side in front with another close-range finish. The visitors continued to look for an equaliser but could not find it, and their task was made harder when Ángel Trujillo was sent off. Unai Emery’s side can still catch Valencia in fourth spot thanks to this win, but Almería have to fight for their future in the Liga BBVA in their final match of the season, at home to Valencia.
