Sevilla FC booked their place in the last four of the UEFA Europa League thanks to a 2-2 with FC Zenit. The reigning Europa League holders had won the first leg 2-1.
The game could not have started any better for the visitors, who in the 6th minute went 0.1 up thanks to a Carlos Bacca penalty. The Colombian could have doubled his tally but Ígor Smólnikov blocked his effort. On the stroke of half time the Russian outfit went close through Salomón Rondón and Danny, however the scoreline remained the same.
Shortly after the restart Rondón took advantage of a Beto error to level the score on the night. On the hour Sevilla had three chances to retake the lead. Carlos Bacca's effort was turned behind by Yuri Lodyguin for a corner. The second fell to Jorge Andújar 'Coke' who first through a header and then a loose ball almost made it 1-2, however Hulk levelled things up overall with a long range effort on 72'.
The Brazilian's goal gave the home side added impetus, and they pushed on in search of a third, however a counterattack started by Éver Banega produced the decisive goal for Unai Emery’s side with five minutes to go through Kevin Gameiro, who had previously replaced Bacca. Sevilla will find out their opponent in the draw, which is held on Friday 24 April.
