Cristiano Ronaldo has the prize of top scorer in the Liga BBVA in his sights. The Portuguese opened up a four-goal lead over his closest rival Lionel Messi by scoring three times in Real Madrid CF’s 4-1 victory over RCD Espanyol on Sunday. Messi may have scored the match winner in FC Barcelona’s title-clinching win at Atlético Madrid, but he has little chance of catching Ronaldo in the scoring chants, as the Portuguese has 45 goals to the Argentinian’s 41.
The fight for third place in the scoring charts is compelling. Neymar and Antoine Griezmann, who both failed to find the net at the Vicente Calderón on Sunday, are tied in third on 22 goals. The Brazilian will try to seal third spot in Barça’s final game of the season against RC Deportivo, while the Frenchman will look to outscore his fellow forward when Atlético visit Granada CF.
The fifth top scorer in the Liga BBVA is Carlos Bacca. The Sevilla FC striker, who has scored 20 goals this season, did not play in his side’s 2-1 win over UD Almería, so the Colombian will be looking to further increase his goalscoring tally in the last game of the season against Málaga CF at La Rosaleda.
