The teams of Liga BBVA are already well into their pre-season schedule. With their sights firmly set on the 2015/16 season they have begun to face the coming season with mixed emotions.
Levante UD, Villarreal CF and Granada CF will be most content with the days proceedings. Levante dominating away against UD Alizira and running out 3-0 winners. Meanwhile Villarreal narrowly beat CF Reus 1-0 with a goal from newcomer Léo Baptistão, Granada winning by the same scoreline. Real Sociedad, however, could not break the stalemate to draw with Real Unión Club.
Real Madrid CF, Valencia CF, Rayo Vallecano, Real Sporting de Gijón and SD Eibar, by contrast, all suffered defeats.
First up was Real Madrid against AS Roma in a match which was dominated from the start by the Italians, and although Rafa Benitez’s men had their chances the game finished 0-0. AS Roma winning on penalties.
A similar fate awaited the remaining Spanish teams. Valencia going down 4-1 away to FC Bayern München, who, after pulling a goal back through Rodrigo could do nothing to prevent the Bavarians scoring another three to end up soundly beaten. Also on German soil, Rayo were second best from the start, finishing 4-2 against FC St. Pauli.
In the "III Memorial Manolo Preciado", Sporting won 0-1 in the semifinals against Real Sociedad Gimnástica de Torrelavega, but lost on penalties in the final against Real Racing de Santander. Finally, Eibar , in a match to commemorate its 75th anniversary, were defeated by Celtic FC. After dominating the first half, and even missing a penalty, they finished with a 4-1 defeat in Ipurua .
