LaLiga understands the importance of soccer development and training for the youth in becoming the soccer stars of the future. To this end, they have partnered with Grassroots Soccer, an adolescent health organization that leverages the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth in developing countries to overcome their greatest health challenges, live healthier, more productive lives, and be agents for change in their communities.
Those who took part in the football clinic this Saturday in South Africa had the chance to engage with LaLiga Ambassador and former France and Real Madrid midfielder Christian Karembeu. Karembeu was an integral part of the French national team that won the 1998 World Cup and 2000 UEFA European Championship and the Real Madrid side that lifted the 1998 and 2000 UEFA Champions League trophies.
“It’s an honour for me to represent LaLiga in Africa, and to help and collaborate in the expansion that it has been undergoing for many years, bringing it closer to fans the world over”, Karembeu said. When asked what his thoughts were on the growth of Football in Africa specifically he said “It’s developing really well. Africa produces a great number of players, some of whom ply their trade in LaLiga while others go and play in other parts of the world.” He mentioned the importance of the organized leagues and tournaments like the African Cup of Nations in helping to create a platform for the top African players to showcase their talents.
The Alexandra media engagement was held at 3 Square Sports Complex, 13th Avenue, Alexandra, with Vicente Casado, Managing Director of International Development together LaLiga Ambassador Christian Karembeu and Grassroots Football.
