Following a weekend packed full of excitement, surprises and some stellar individual performances, the time has come to reveal the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Matchday 7 Best XI.
There can be little doubt as to the star performer across this weekend's action, with Valencia CF goalkeeper, Diego Alves scooping the Player of the Matchday award courtesy of his 19-point display against Atletico Madrid, which featured no less than two penalty saves. Last matchday saw the Brazilian become LaLiga's all-time leading penalty-stopper after he thwarted CD Leganes's Alexander Szymanowski's from the spot, and he was at it again on Sunday, pulling off two sensational penalty saves to deny Antoine Griezmann and Gabi. The record-breaking custodian deservedly takes his place between the sticks as the Player of the Matchday.
The stars making up this matchday's Best XI were responsible for a total of nine goals, with the defenders weighing in with three of them. Marshalling the defence is FC Barcelona's Gerard Pique, who hit a brace against RC Celta en route to chalking up 15 points. Taking his place alongside the Barça man is UD Las Palmas's David Garcia, who was on the scoresheet in a 13-point performance as the Islanders claimed a point against CA Osasuna. The three-man defence is completed by Atletico's Juanfran, whose fine showing in the Rojiblancas' victory over Valencia saw him notch up 12 points.
The Matchday 7 Best XI midfield is simply bursting with talent. RC Deportivo's Emre Çolak bagged 14 points to top the standings in the middle of the park, where he is joined by Sevilla FC's Vitolo, Osasuna's Roberto Torres and Real Sociedad starlet, Mikel Oyarzabal, all of whom amassed 13 points.
The side's three-man frontline netted a total of five goals this weekend. Wissam Ben Yedder -the second Sevilla representative to make the cut - found the net twice in a fine 16-point showing against D.Alaves, whilst Iago Aspas (15) was at the double in Celta's victory over Barcelona and Kevin Gameiro (15) was on target as Atleti took maximum points at Mestalla.
