High pressure by Levante
The positioning and intensity in the pressure by Rubi’s men were clear since the first minute of play. From the perseverance came the first goal, undertaken by Jefferson Lerma. The Colombian midfielder recovered the ball from an Espanyol centre-back, Enzo Roco, and finished the one on one against Pau Lopez perfectly.
Gerard Moreno
The Catalan striker came on in the second half and after the manager’s talk at half time, Espanyol went out with a more offensive spirit and with the idea of not letting Levante play the ball. Gerard Moreno’s involvement gave the home team more presence in the rivals’ box and better use of crosses from the wings, from Fuentes and Javi Lopez.
Excellent counter-attack finish
Even though they were winning, the away side didn’t give up on attacking, circumstance that Sergio Gonzalez’s men took advantage of to get back into the game. A great counter-attack leaded by Felipe Caicedo and with an outstanding combination that was finished by Gerard Moreno from the second post. With this goal the match had more parity with most of the second half still to play.
Open ending
Espanyol’s goal evened out the scales and both team tried to uneven them. Levante, tried to score with different plays by their attacking men such as Victor Casadesus or Roger Marti, but Pau Lopez’s immense performance avoided the score being changed. Likewise, the Catalan team went looking for a 2-1 that never ended up appearing.
