Football needs goals, well that will at least be the main premise in the derby between Girona FC and UE Llagostera. Both clubs are enjoying their best seasons ever at this level, therefore three points in this game would be crucial in keeping the sides towards the top of the league. In this regard, Fran Sandaza and Sergio León will have particularly important roles as with thirteen and eight goals, respectively, they are leading scorers at their clubs and will have starring roles in this La Liga duel this weekend.

Girona will be relying on their most in-form forward to keep a firm grip on second place in the league. The forward joined the Catalan side last summer, and at the moment, the Toledo player  is enjoying his best season in the Spanish league with 13 goals in 33 games and more than 2,600 minutes on the pitch. If age is a grade, then the forward must have university degree in the football world as he began his career in the 2003-04 season with CD and has spent a large part of his career in the Scottish and English leagues.

Sergio León, is pure commitment and dedication on the pitch with his current Llagostera. He spent five years in the lower ranks at Real Betis and the player from Cordoba has passed through different teams in Segunda B and Tercera. Finally, he has been able to consolidate his place in a side in the Liga Adelante. In fact, this has been his best season, with a total of 32 matches, 2,148 minutes and 8 goals along the way, his best statistics in Spanish football’s silver league.

In addition to being the top scorers for their respective sides, they are the eighth highest ranked players in terms of minutes for their respective teams, Girona and Llagostera, another stat that reflects the value of these forwards out on the pitch.

In front of goal, the home side’s forward on matchday 40, has notched up 71 shots, 40 of which were on target. He has four assists and has completed 44 successful dribbles, which gives him an effectivity of 33% with the ball at his feet. Sergio León has had 41 shots in 40 games, 21 of which were on target. León has had fewer shots than Sandaza, however he is more skilful in controlling the ball, as he has a 44% effectivity rating in terms of dribbles, having made 17 successful dribbles from 38 attempts.
