Granada (18th, 26 points)
- Despite being a man up for the majority of the game, Granada followed two straight victories with a heavy defeat at the hands of Real Betis last weekend, which kept them in the relegation zone.

- "It's a pivotal game, winning would mean a lot - an important leg up in the table and being able to go into the next with greater optimism," Granada coach Jose Gonzalez admitted ahead of the Espanyol match.
Espanyol (14th, 31 points)
- Espanyol have won three of their last four games, a run that has allowed them to move up the table, putting them five points clear of the relegation zone. A win in Granada would see Espanyol in a very comfortable position with nine rounds of the championship remaining.

- The Catalan side have beaten Granada on both of their last two visits to the Nuevo Los Carmenes Stadium - celebrating a 2-1 victory last season and, before that, securing the three points with a 1-0 triumph.
