Granada finally wins in Los Cármenes

The match didn’t start at all in Athletic Club’s favour. In the 5th minute, Granada approached Iraizoz’s area with danger and Laporte, trying to pass the ball back to his keeper, put it at the back of the net.

Parity in the first half

Both teams struggled to create any plays during the first 45 minutes. After Granada’s goal, the game lacked occasion and an effort from both teams was needed. The final minutes were more active, but the score didn’t change. With the 1-0, scored in the 5th minute, half time started at Los Carmenes.

Andres Fernandez

Granada’s goalkeeper had an outstanding performance. He saved his team several times from Aduriz’s strikes. The most important one in the first half was from a free kick taken by Beñat, who aimed at the bottom right corner, but Andres was there to put his hand in the way. During the second half he had to make a lot more interventions. In the 8th minute, the keeper saved his team twice, avoiding the equalizer. Two amazing saves. For the first time this season, Sandoval’s team left with a clean sheet.

Script change

After the resumption, the match gave a massive turn. We were able to enjoy a clash full of opportunities and open for both teams. They both levelled the intensity, so the score could have gone either way. It was Granada who hit first: Success extended their lead in the 59th minute.

Last Basque minutes

The final 15 minutes were dominated by Athletic, who didn’t stop fighting to change the score. They had chances to do so, but they struggled to shoot on target, and when they did, Andres Fernandez was there to save it. Furthermore, Granada’s defence was very well positioned, they did a perfect job. The final result was 2-0 for the Andalusians, they get their first home victory, the second one of the season.
