Washington witnessed a friendly match between Chelsea FC and FC Barcelona; the third pre-season test for the ‘azulgranas’. After taking a win and a loss from the previous games, Luis Enrique’s side lost again, this time in a penalty shoot-out (4-2), against the team of Real Madrid ex-manager, José Mourinho.

The first half saw a duel full of chances in which FC Barcelona, who combined youth team players such as Munir El Haddadi and Gerard Gumbau with stars of the size of Luis Suárez and Ivan Rakitić in their starting eleven, were unable to answer a brilliant Eden Hazard goal. The Chelsea player weaved a solo run which he finished off with a great shot; it was unstoppable for Ter Stegen.

After the break, the la Liga BBVA team responded and turned the score around with a goal from Luis Suárez, the star of the pre-season and decisive player in all the games on the tour, and another goal from the youth team player Sandro Ramírez. However, the come-back didn’t dent the English side, who searched for an equaliser and found it in the 85th minute, thanks to Gary Cahill. In the end, the match was decided on penalties, which gave Chelsea the victory.
