The thousands of people who flocked to the Estadio Campeon del Siglo to watch Club Atletico Peñarol take on RC Deportivo were rewarded in the shape of a thrilling spectacle. There were plenty of Deportivo supporters in the mix and they were visibly moved at the chance to watch their beloved team in the flesh, while the Peñarol fans were also buzzing about getting to feast their eyes on the LaLiga players.
Although they came close to seeing victory slip away after surrendering a two-goal lead, the visitors eventually overcame the hosts in what was a truly pulsating game. A storming comeback from Peñarol in the latter stages ensured that this rip-roaring encounter would be settled in suitably dramatic fashion – through a penalty shootout, in which Saul Garcia ultimately notched the winning kick. And so Gaizka Garitano's charges completed their LaLiga World adventure in Uruguay with an exhilarating triumph over one of the strongest teams in the South American country.

One of Deportivo's standout performers during the tour, Borja Valle, was thrilled with the experience. "You get to know wonderful places and stadiums, like the one today," said the striker before voicing his gratitude and his desire that the LaLiga World programme keeps going strong. The man of the match, Hernan Novick, continued in the same vein as his opponent. "We're grateful for you coming here, because it allows us to do battle against top-level teams," said the Peñarol player.
Jorge Da Silva, the home side's coach, expressed his hope that LaLiga World "continues afoot next year to give us the chance to face teams we're not used to facing." Meanwhile, Deportivo coach Garitano said that he was delighted "to be able to visit these grounds." "The truth is that it's been a pleasure," he added. And with these cordial exchanges, the curtains fell on Deportivo's second LaLiga World expedition.
