Match Facts:

- This is the first test for an Asturian outfit packed with newcomers, who Abelardo Fernandez will have to fine tune. The manager was in positive spirits ahead of the first game of the season: "We have greater potential, because we've got more talent to draw on."

- After securing promotion on the final matchday last season, Sporting are starting from scratch and will be looking to surprise their opponents this term, going head-to-head with them and dominating possession.

- Former Athletic Club defender Fernando Amorebieta returns to LaLiga and faces his former club on the opening day.

Athletic Club:

- It is time for Athletic to get the wheels turning and show what they are made of, as they kick off the season in need of points and a confidence boost before their upcoming games against FC Barcelona, RC Deportivo and Valencia CF.

- El Molinon is a happy hunting ground for the Bilbao club. It has been 11 games and 25 years since their last defeat there.
