Burnside Primary School in Adelaide was the chosen venue for a taekwondo masterclass given by members of Spain’s under-21 team. As part of the LFP World Challenge, 40 young taekwondo practitioners enjoyed the seminar offered by the sportsmen and women accompanying Villarreal CF on their Australian tour. Among the attendees were the Papua New Guinea national team, who are preparing for the Oceania Taekwondo Championships.
The initiative is driven by LaLiga, ICEX and the Spanish Government and the National Sports Council, in order to offer visibility to minority sports through Spanish football. This aim was highlighted by Spain’s national coach, Miguel Ángel Herranz, who expressed his gratitude for the efforts of these institutions in raising the profile of Spanish taekwondo.
The event was held ahead of the Champions of Spain, organised by the above bodies and to take place on 30 May at the Concordia College in Adelaide, in which the Australian and Spanish national teams will go head to head in top-level taekwondo exhibition matches that will see the presence of the entire Villarreal CF squad.
