RC Celta 2-1 FC Krasnodar
A goal on the stroke of full time from Claudio Beauvue handed Celta a valuable first-leg lead against Krasnodar at Balaidos. Neither side could find a way through in the first half but it was Eduardo Berizzo’s men who dominated play, with Pione Sisto and John Guidetti looking dangerous up front. Celta’s Swedish striker came closest, forcing a save from Stanislav Kritsyuk before brushing the post with an effort shortly after.

Goalless at the break, the home side were rewarded shortly after the restart when Daniel Wass’ long-range free kick found its way past Kritsyuk and into the bottom corner. The visitors reacted quickly, however, and were back on level terms just five minutes later when Viktor Claesson beat two defenders on the edge of the box before finishing neatly through the legs of Sergio Alvarez.

Celta pushed forward in search of a second go-ahead goal but were frustrated by a dogged visiting defence. The Russians looked to have held on for a creditable draw only for Beauvue to steal in at the near post to meet Hugo Mallo’s cross in from the right and head past Kritsyuk to hand Celta a first-leg lead.
