Barcelona have been drawn against FC Twente, of the Netherlands, in the Women's Champions League round of 16. The Catalans and the Dutch outfit are familiar foes, having locked horns at the same stage of the tournament last term. The first leg of this season's tie will take place on 9 or 10 November at the Miniestadi, while the return match will be contested in the Dutch city of Enschede a week later.
Barcelona among the seeds
Xavi Llorens's team were seeded as a result of being one of the top eight clubs in the draw. Specifically, Barça rank seventh out of the last-16 participants with a coefficient of 49.695.
Fond memories of facing Twente
The Azulgranas took on the Dutch side in the round of 16 last season and triumphed courtesy of a pair of 1-0 wins, with Olga Garcia getting both goals. Twente, who go into the tie on the strength of putting AC Sparta Prague to the sword in both legs of the last 32 (2-0 at home and 3-1 away), will therefore be hungry for revenge.
Sights fixed on a historic European run
The stage looks set for in-form Barcelona to keep doing Spain proud in the Women's Champions League, having eased past FC Minsk 3-0 in Belarus and 2-1 on home territory in the round of 32.
Two quarter-final exits, one of which came last term, represent the Catalans' best-ever results in the competition. While last time round they were knocked out by PSG, they also reached the quarters three years ago, when they succumbed to VfL Wolfsburg.
Llorens's team are hoping to break new ground this campaign by making it through to at least the semi-finals. To do so, they will have to start off by getting the better of Twente for the second campaign in a row.
