Iker Muniain and Ibai Gómez are unavailable for the hosts through injury, while Xabi Etxeita will be unable to feature due to suspension. Visiting coach Moyes welcomes back full-back Joseba Zaldua after he missed La Real's previous Liga BBVA outing against Villarreal CF due to accumulated yellow cards, and the Scot will have a full complement to choose from.

Athletic boss Valverde stressed the importance of the clash: "For us, a win would mean overtaking Málaga". He also had words of praise for his opposite number: "Since arriving, David Moyes has done a great job in San Sebastian".
Meanwhile, Moyes discussed the added significance of derbies: "These matches are special and are different games. We'll be going to Bilbao with faith and optimism to win away from home".
