A dream has come true for Marta Escribano. Her name made the headlines last week, after a rule of the Castile and Leon Government prevented the young footballer from playing in the regional under-14s indoor football tournament because it does not permit mixed gender teams. The under-14s side of the Zarzuela del Pinar Sports Schools proclaimed themselves champions of the Castile and Leon School Games, but Marta was unable to lift the trophy or feature in the official photograph with her teammates.

Days later, the Castile and Leon Government announced a change to the rule to allow mixed teams. LaLiga, in line with its defence of the values of responsibility and equality, insisted on drawing attention to the matter and, in collaboration with the clubs, promoted the hashtag #SupportMartaEscribano on social media as a show of support for the budding player.

However, LaLiga's commitment to Marta and women's football does not end there. This morning Marta visited the LaLiga headquarters and met the captains of the Liga Iberdrola teams. "I'm so thrilled. My dream is to become a footballer," assured Marta. In addition, the players presented her with a ball signed by all of them. "It's a huge step. Women's football is football, gender aside," underscored Cindy Garcia, the captain of Granadilla Egatesa. Marta Escribano, LaLiga and women's football continue to fight the good fight.
