LALIGA is hosting this week in Madrid a large delegation from the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF), accompanied by representatives from state federations and clubs from Brazil’s Série A and Série B, within the framework of the cooperation agreement between both institutions and as part of an international study tour of Europe’s leading football leagues.

The visit, taking place on January 14th and 15th, focuses on LALIGA’s Economic Control and Financial Fair Play model, widely regarded as an international benchmark in financial sustainability, governance, and the stability of the professional football ecosystem.

On Wednesday, January 14th, LALIGA President Javier Tebas held an institutional meeting with Gustavo Dias Henrique, Vice President of the CBF and one of the key leaders in the current process of modernization of Brazilian football. The meeting reflects the CBF’s strategic interest in gaining in-depth knowledge of European best practices in economic regulation and budgetary control.

During the working sessions on Thursday, January 15th, the delegation took part in a program at LALIGA headquarters that included technical sessions on Economic Control, Financial Fair Play, and professional football ecosystem management, as well as meetings with the teams responsible for overseeing these areas. The aim was to analyze LALIGA’s model from a practical perspective: its regulatory framework, supervision and sanction mechanisms, and its real impact on improving competitiveness and club sustainability.

The Brazilian delegation included executives from the CBF itself, representatives of state federations, and executives and presidents of historic and emerging Brazilian football clubs. Among the clubs represented were Flamengo, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Grêmio, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, Botafogo, Red Bull Bragantino, Athletico Paranaense, Bahia, Vitória, Fortaleza, Ceará, Cuiabá, Chapecoense, Coritiba, Cruzeiro, Internacional, Mirassol, Remo, and América Mineiro, reflecting a broad consensus within Brazilian football on the need to move toward a more sustainable economic model.

The CBF is currently at an advanced stage in the design and implementation of its own national Economic Control system, with a progressive rollout scheduled from 2026 onward. In this context, LALIGA is seen as a replicable success story, both because of the robustness of its model and its ability to adapt to different economic environments and competition structures.

“Economic Control is not just a financial tool; it is a governance model that protects clubs, competitions, and football itself. At LALIGA, we have shown that it is possible to grow, remain competitive, and attract investment through sustainability and responsibility. Sharing this experience with the CBF and Brazilian clubs is an opportunity to continue building a stronger football industry at a global level,” said Javier Tebas, President of LALIGA.

“The meeting between the CBF, state federation officials, and club representatives with LALIGA was a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into the management model that has made the Spanish league a global benchmark. Financial fair play is already a reality in Brazil, and the CBF reaffirms its commitment to this process by analyzing and delving into the experiences of other markets. The exchange of knowledge and cooperation between the CBF and LALIGA represent key advances for the success of the transformations currently underway, aimed at strengthening Brazilian football,” added Gustavo Dias Henrique, Vice President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

Since its implementation, LALIGA’s Economic Control system has helped reduce clubs’ structural debt, ensure compliance with financial obligations, and strengthen the integrity of competitions, consolidating itself as one of the pillars of the development of professional football in Spain.

The visit reinforces LALIGA’s international positioning as a technical and strategic partner in governance and economic regulation projects, and opens the door to future lines of cooperation in areas such as training, consultancy, process auditing, and the progressive implementation of Financial Fair Play models in other markets.

This visit adds to an already well-established collaborative relationship between LALIGA and Brazilian football, which includes the cooperation agreement LALIGA has maintained for years with the Paulista Football Federation, focused on the exchange of knowledge and best practices in areas such as governance, professionalization of competitions, institutional management, and the development of sustainable models. This prior experience has helped establish a continuous technical dialogue channel and further strengthens LALIGA’s role as a strategic partner in the modernization of football in Brazil.
